Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has mapped out Indonesia's energy commodity purchases from the United States, valued at US$15.5 billion, consisting of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and crude oil.

"We will increase our LPG imports from the US, along with crude oil for domestic needs," ESDM Deputy Minister Yuliot Tanjung stated on Friday.

He noted that Indonesia has imported crude from the United States through other countries. With an energy spending budget of US$15.5 billion, he expects crude oil transactions to be made directly with the US, as part of Indonesia's tariff negotiations.

Tanjung said he could not as yet confirm the volume of crude imports from the US, as this depends on fluctuating global oil prices, especially amid rising tensions in the Middle East.

"The value can be determined based on the volume and on the ICP (Indonesian Crude Price) that we have set," he explained.

Furthermore, he could not confirm the decision to import fuel oil from the US.

According to Tanjung, Indonesia is currently working to increase fuel production from domestic refineries.

Tanjung said that once repairs and upgrades to refinery technology in the country are completed, Indonesia aims to meet its fuel oil needs through domestic production rather than imports.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto revealed Indonesia's plans to purchase energy from the United States worth US$15.5 billion.

The government intends to increase imports of energy commodities from the US as part of a strategy to balance trade between the two countries.

ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated that although Indonesia's trade balance officially shows a surplus of about US$14.5 billion according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), US records indicate a higher figure.
