Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) is committed to ensuring internet access at Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) to support teaching and learning activities and advance digitalization in the education sector.

“Every Sekolah Rakyat location will be equipped with adequate internet service to support digital learning processes,” said Alfreno Kautsar Ramadhan, Special Staff to the Minister, in a statement from Jakarta on Sunday.

This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to delivering equitable and connected education, in line with directives from President Prabowo Subianto.

Alfreno made the remarks while representing Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid during a working visit to a Sekolah Rakyat site at the Polytechnic of Social Welfare (Poltekesos) in Bandung on Saturday (July 5).

According to Alfreno, digital connectivity is a key solution to expanding access and improving the quality of education, especially for vulnerable groups.

“We want the students at Poltekesos Bandung—and at all Sekolah Rakyat locations—to have access to the digital world, so they can achieve a brighter future,” he said.

The provision of internet access is a joint effort between the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs and the Ministry of Social Affairs, which operates Sekolah Rakyat, as part of the effort to provide adequate education facilities for all Indonesians.

Alfreno stated that Sekolah Rakyat graduates are expected to become digitally literate and emerge as future leaders of Indonesia.

“We are not just producing graduates—we are shaping a generation of leaders who will guide Indonesia toward a more just, resilient, and sovereign future,” he emphasized.

During the visit, Alfreno reviewed the digital infrastructure at Sekolah Rakyat in Bandung and inspected the internet bandwidth provided by Kemkomdigi to support digital-based learning.

At the same location, Idit Supriadi Priatna, Secretary of the Directorate General of Social Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Social Affairs, explained that the visit aimed to ensure internet readiness at Sekolah Rakyat sites in Bandung. The city is set to launch at least three schools on July 14, 2025.

“These include the schools at Poltekesos, the Wyataguna Complex, and the Bandung City Vocational Training Center (BLK), so Bandung is being used as a sample,” Idit said.

According to Idit, the internet network and digital infrastructure will be financed by each Sekolah Rakyat location, as part of its operational budget.

Funding will not come from Kemkomdigi or from the host institutions, since each Sekolah Rakyat will function as an independent work unit, he said.
