Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The El Tari Kupang Airport Management announced that four flights from Kupang and Flores Island were canceled due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Monday.

"Four flights were forced to be canceled by the airline due to the eruption of Mount Lewotobi," I Gusti Ngurah Yudi Saputra, the acting head of the Legal, Compliance, & Stakeholder Relations Department of El Tari Kupang Airport, stated on Monday.

On Monday, Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki erupted, sending a volcanic ash column up to 18 thousand meters above the mountain's peak.

The four canceled flights included the El Tari Kupang Airport-Frans Seda Maumere Airport route and its return flight.

The flight from Kupang to Larantuka, East Flores, and the return flight from Larantuka to Kupang were also canceled.

"Two airlines, Nam Air and Wings Air, announced flight cancellations as a precautionary measure against volcanic ash," Saputra remarked.

He reminded passengers and the public to stay calm during this situation and to always follow official updates from relevant authorities.

He noted that the latest information on the flight status can be found through the official airline channel, the official information service of El Tari Kupang Airport, or by calling CC 172.

Earlier, Fajarudin M. Balido, an officer from the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki monitoring post, reported that the mountain had erupted again, following earlier eruptions on June 20-21.

"There was an eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, East Nusa Tenggara, on July 7, 2025, at 11:05 local time, with an observed ash column height of approximately 18 thousand meters above the peak," Balido remarked.

He revealed that the ash column appeared gray to black, with thick intensity drifting towards the North, Northeast, and Northwest.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters and lasted approximately six minutes and 26 seconds.

Based on analysis from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVBMG), the status of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki is currently at Level IV (Alert).
