“The two Pakistani nationals were arrested on suspicion of illegally raising funds by soliciting donations from mosques throughout Bandarlampung city,” Said Ismail, head of Class I TPI Bandarlampung Immigration, said in Bandarlampung on Monday.
He informed that the Pakistanis arrived in Lampung province in June 2025 on a visit visa after previously staying in Jakarta.
“They came to Bandarlampung, soliciting donations from mosque to mosque, claiming the funds were intended for their home country,” he said.
The Immigration office is still investigating their motives and networks, he added. A preliminary examination found that the two foreign nationals did not have any local sponsor or guarantor.
“During the investigation, no one has claimed to be a sponsor. They came alone, and there is no representative who is responsible,” he said.
He added that based on intelligence records, the two foreign nationals collected Rp3 million (around US$184.52) and allegedly sent the sum to their country.
“However, so far there have been no reports from the public regarding financial losses due to the activities of the two foreign nationals,” he added.
He informed that the two foreign nationals are facing deportation for violating their stay permits. They reportedly entered the country on business visas.
“The visas used were not appropriate; they used business visas, yet engaged in fundraising. Therefore, we will take action in accordance with immigration provisions if these violations are proven,” he added.
He also appealed to the public to report any foreign nationals raising funds without identification or official permission from relevant parties.
“If foreigners are seen asking for donations without valid documents or a clear sponsor, it is crucial to report them at once to prevent financial losses within the community,” he said.
