Jakarta (ANTARA) - As part of its continued efforts to counter extremism and terrorism, Indonesia’s National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) is finalizing the 2025–2029 National Action Plan for Preventing Violent Extremism (RAN PE).

BNPT Chief Secretary Bangbang Surono said the second phase of the plan's finalization will focus on nine key areas that will guide the country’s counter-extremism efforts over the next five years.

"The drafting process involves multiple stakeholders to refine the strategy," Surono said in a statement on Tuesday.

He noted that the process has been ongoing for the past year and includes input from ministries, government agencies, scholars, academics, civil society organizations, and regional governments.

These consultations aim to identify key challenges and develop effective strategies to prevent violence-based extremism across the country.

Surono emphasized that broad participation in drafting the plan reflects a shared commitment to tackling extremism through a comprehensive and coordinated approach.

He also highlighted the success of the previous 2020–2024 plan, noting that 98 percent of its programs have been implemented and many have been adopted at the regional level.

"It shows that the system to counter extremism is becoming more integrated nationwide," he said.

The updated RAN PE aligns with the second point of Asta Cita — eight-point national vision — which focuses on preventing ideology- and violence-driven extremism.

Surono added that the new action plan is also part of the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) and is included in the 2025 Presidential Regulation Program.

He expressed hope that the new RAN PE would serve as a strategic foundation for long-term, sustainable counterterrorism efforts.
