The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) said on Friday that the two nations have enjoyed a comprehensive partnership since 2022, and both aim to consistently develop their collaboration on counterterrorism and its relevant aspects.
“Collaboration between Vietnam and Indonesia has grown stronger since the inking of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on December 22, 2022,” the agency’s deputy for international collaboration, Andhika Chrisnayudhanto, said.
According to Chrisnayudhanto, the meeting is an opportunity to exchange experiences, views, and discuss future plans on aspects ranging from information exchange, cooperation among law enforcement agencies, to personnel capacity-building through training.
So far, the two nations have agreed on conducting intelligence and information exchange through a hotline; holding workshops to discuss themes such as cyberspace as a terror tool and the use of artificial intelligence (AI); and collaborating in research and training, among others, he informed.
They have also agreed on multilateral collaboration through the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC), International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), as well as capacity-building in the law enforcement sector.
During the meeting, Chrisnayudhanto told the Vietnamese delegates that his agency is involving people and the media to spread counter-narratives on terrorism.
“Ambassadors of Peace involve more than a thousand participants across many provinces to help us fight off the (terrorism) narratives,” he said.
In the same statement, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, Pham The Thung, said that the memorandum of understanding inked by the two countries is a great form of collaboration.
The partnership is expected to bring peace to the region, Thung added.
