Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government plans to offer 75 oil and gas blocks to contractors, with most located in the Papua and Sulawesi regions, an official announced on Tuesday.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung said that 20 of the blocks, including Seram-Aru, Cendrawasih Bay II, and Cendrawasih Bay III, are located in the Maluku–Papua region.

The blocks will be offered to Contractors for Cooperation Contracts (KKKS) or other companies as part of the government’s efforts to boost domestic oil and gas production.

A KKKS is a business entity appointed by the Indonesian government to conduct exploration and exploitation of oil and natural gas in a designated working area.

Of the 75 blocks, 61 will be offered through auction, including three that have already been awarded — Central Andaman, Amanah, and Melati — and two that remain open for bidding: Mahakam and Serpang.

“We have completed the identification process and are ready to offer the remaining blocks through auction,” Tanjung said.
