Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday announced that oil production at the Banyu Urip Oil Field in Cepu Block, East Java, has increased by 30 thousand barrels per day (bpd).

The rise in oil production at Cepu Block is an important momentum for Indonesia to build energy self-sufficiency, according to the president.

He emphasized that energy is important for the sovereignty of a nation.

“We are grateful that we have extraordinary energy sources, including renewable energy. We just have to manage them well,” Prabowo said.

“Today is proof of the ability of the Indonesian nation to achieve energy self-sufficiency, which is very important for our future,” he added, following the inauguration of the operation and construction of several geothermal and solar power plants (PLTS) spread across 15 provinces.

The additional output at Cepu Block, which is managed by ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL), will increase its share in total national oil lifting to 25 percent.

The project to increase oil production was carried out in eight months, or 10 months faster than the planned target, according to Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.

With the addition of 30 thousand bpd lifted from four new wells, the total production at Cepu Block has reached 170 thousand to 180 thousand bpd.

He said he is optimistic that Indonesia can achieve its energy self-sufficiency target for 2029–2030 by producing 900 thousand to 1 million barrels of oil.
