“We have discussed several important points, both with Qatar and the Indonesian government. The key points relate to competency development, placement systems, and so on,” Deputy P2MI Minister Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla said after the meeting.
He informed that the Qatari representatives sought to clarify cooperation in the placement of Indonesian migrant workers.

While the two sides did not explicitly discuss whether Qatar needs more domestic or skilled migrant workers, according to the deputy minister, the Middle Eastern nation’s requirement for professional workers is higher than for domestic workers.
“Their professional needs are apparently higher than those of domestic workers because their population is only around 200 thousand people,” he said.
Therefore, Tawalla predicted that during the meeting, which was expected to continue until the afternoon, Qatar would push for greater cooperation in the placement of skilled migrant workers.
“Yes, that’s right (they will likely look for skilled migrant workers),” he said.
According to data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are around three thousand Indonesian citizens in Qatar at present, and most of them are employed in professional sectors such as health and construction, he pointed out.
Many Indonesians are keen to work in Qatar, which has a small population of around 200 thousand, he added.
