Jakarta (ANTARA) - International relations observer Andrea Abdul Rahman Azzqy stated that the outcome of the 2025 BRICS Leaders’ Summit should serve as a gateway for infrastructure financing and boost Indonesia’s credibility on the multipolar global stage.

“In real terms, the results of the 2025 BRICS Summit should open access to infrastructure funding and strengthen Indonesia’s credibility in the multipolar arena,” he told ANTARA here on Wednesday.

He noted that the achievements of the BRICS Summit should also improve access to the New Development Bank (NDB), turn the Rio Declaration into concrete projects, and maintain balanced ties with traditional partners.

Azzqy remarked that Indonesia’s decision to join BRICS represents a strategic shift in its foreign policy, from merely observing global dynamics to actively shaping them.

He explained that amid an increasingly multipolar world, BRICS membership provides Indonesia with new strategic room to maneuver, to expand influence, strengthen its bargaining power, and diversify its partnerships beyond traditional Western allies.

Azzqy emphasized that Indonesia’s BRICS membership should not be interpreted as a shift in alignment.

“This is about expanding the stage, not changing the role. In a multipolar world, relevance is defined by the ability to bridge, not by choosing sides,” he elaborated.

Nonetheless, he acknowledged that BRICS membership puts Indonesia in a bigger spotlight.

However, the observer noted that maintaining balance, building bridges, and staying true to Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy will be key challenges for President Prabowo Subianto and Foreign Minister Sugiono following Indonesia’s official accession to BRICS.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed Indonesia’s full support for the new direction of BRICS cooperation as outlined in the 2025 Leaders’ Declaration, which includes strengthening multilateralism, reforming global governance, promoting international peace and stability, and enhancing cooperation in economy, trade, and finance.
