“Regarding Myanmar, we want peace in the country,” Foreign Minister Sugiono said after attending the 58th AMM in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
He informed that during the meeting, ASEAN foreign ministers expressed concern for Myanmar, which is a member of ASEAN and a part of the ASEAN family.
The issues related to the Myanmar crisis must be addressed jointly, starting with prioritizing assistance that can be provided by fellow ASEAN members, he added.
“How can we, each country, help?” he asked.
Earlier, during a diplomatic meeting on Myanmar at the World Economic Forum in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, in January 2025, Sugiono said that Indonesia is continuing to encourage dialogue to find a solution to the political crisis in Myanmar, which has triggered a humanitarian crisis in the country.
“Indonesia is always committed to supporting the creation of a conducive situation and a safe space for dialogue in Myanmar,” he said.
Sugiono also expressed concern that the nation’s prolonged internal conflict, sparked by the 2021 military coup, has exposed the wider region to threats arising from the spread of transnational crime and the proliferation of opium production in Myanmar.
