"Austria is known for its strong vocational system, which aligns well with industry needs. We believe this collaboration can open new opportunities to enhance the competence of Indonesia’s workforce," said Manpower Minister Yassierli.
During a meeting with Austrian Ambassador Thomas Loidl, Yassierli stressed the importance of vocational cooperation as part of a broader strategy to upskill workers and boost global competitiveness.
He noted that Austria’s industry-based vocational training system could serve as a valuable model for Indonesia’s job training programs.
Yassierli also proposed an apprenticeship scheme that would allow graduates of Indonesia’s Vocational Training Centers (BLKs) to train in Austrian industries for two to three years.
He explained that Indonesia currently sends workers abroad through two pathways: as migrant workers and as interns. He emphasized that any internship scheme must prioritize worker protection.
"This is not just about job placement — it’s about strengthening the capacity of our national workforce," he said.
The minister also discussed expanding the number of BLKs in Indonesia with Austrian support and welcomed proposals for vocational training exchanges.
Ambassador Loidl responded positively, saying Austria is ready to host 100–200 Indonesian interns annually, particularly in the hospitality sector.
"We see Indonesia as a strategic partner in workforce development, and many Austrian companies are eager to recruit Indonesian interns," he said.
Loidl added that Austria had previously supported BLK development through loan schemes and is now exploring additional forms of support, including grants.
