Makassar (ANTARA) - As many as 1,800 homes were reportedly flooded, and four bridges were severely damaged by a hydrometeorological disaster in Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi.

"Based on field data, the floods and landslides in Bulukumba Regency affected 1,800 homes," said Amson Padolo, Acting Head of the South Sulawesi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) in Makassar on Thursday.

The flooding in Bulukumba was triggered by heavy rain from July 5-7, 2025.

The most affected areas were four sub-districts, namely Ujung Bulu, Ujung Loe, Gantarang, and Kindang.

Floodwaters have now begun to recede, and residents are gradually cleaning and rebuilding their homes.

The BPBD confirmed there were no casualties, but several homes sustained damage, along with road and bridge infrastructure.

In addition to Bulukumba district, which experienced flooding, neighboring Sinjai and Bone districts were also affected by the hydrometeorological disaster.

BPBD is currently conducting an assessment and deploying personnel to explore affected areas and evacuate residents trapped by the floods.

Regarding this, Amson urged the public to remain vigilant for weather anomalies.

The South Sulawesi BPBD also urged the public to clean water channels and drainage systems and avoid traveling to areas prone to flooding or landslides.

BPBD also reminds the public to store important items and documents in a safe place and pay special attention to children and vulnerable groups if they find themselves in a dangerous situations.
