The ministry’s assistant deputy for region I policy implementation coordination on child rights fulfillment, Devy Nia Pradhika, said here on Thursday that families must offer children opportunities to speak up and listen to them so that they have the confidence to speak before even larger audiences.
Moreover, families can foster this confidence by involving children in decision-making.
“We, the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, believe that every child has a right. The right to what? The right to be listened to, the right to be respected, the right to be involved in a meaningful way,” she said.
Pradhika added that it is important for the government to consider children’s aspirations so that a better policy can be formulated for them.
She then commended Wahana Visi Indonesia for initiating a forum with children, saying the dialogue is an important effort to involve children in national development.
The ministry is making several preparations for National Children’s Day 2025, which falls on July 23, such as drafting the Indonesian Children’s Voice (SAI), a means to convey the aspirations, needs, and hopes of children regarding rights fulfillment and protection.
For the purpose, inputs have been gathered from children across the country, from rural to provincial levels, using Children’s Voice Canvas to make the process more inclusive and systematic.
