“We are currently carrying out a comprehensive study to ensure that the selected CFN location supports the program’s sustainability and does not disrupt existing activities in the area,” Jakarta Transportation Agency Head Syafrin Liputo informed here on Thursday.
Liputo said that his side is also conducting secondary benchmarking with major global cities that have implemented similar programs.
“For example, in Hong Kong, the car free night is not held on the main roads, but rather on smaller streets that may need more economic activities,” he expounded.
He added that major roads that have high levels of economic activity should not be used for night markets or CFN, as doing so could interfere with the activities of existing businesses.

For this reason, he said, the Jakarta Transportation Office will continue its in-depth study before officially organizing CFN in the city.
“We hope to achieve optimal results for the implementation of CFN in Jakarta,” he added.
Earlier, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo emphasized the need for thoroughly studying the planned Car Free Night program to ensure it does not interfere with hotel operations.
“We need to study this in detail. Me and the deputy governor must make wise decisions so as not to disrupt hotel businesses,” he said on July 5, 2025.
He noted that the Sudirman-MH Thamrin street area has many hotels that frequently serve as venues for wedding events on the weekends.
The Jakarta provincial government is continuing to coordinate with several stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of public activities without disrupting others.
