Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The Ministry for the Protection of Migrant Workers has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the children and families of Indonesian migrant workers who remain at home while their parents work abroad.

The ministry's Director of Reintegration and Family Empowerment, Hadi Wahyuningrum, stated that protecting the families of migrant workers is a core mandate and obligation of the government.

“Our goal is to show that the government is present. Under Minister Abdul Kadir Karding, and in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, the Ministry has been entrusted with two mandates,” Wahyuningrum said on Friday.

She made the statement after attending a workshop with the Dharma Wanita organization in Mekar Baru Sub-district.

One way the government demonstrates its commitment, she explained, is by improving the welfare of families through foreign exchange remittances.

“The ministry’s presence in Mekar Baru is aimed at supporting the welfare of children separated from their parents who are working overseas,” she said.

The Ministry also works to support the growth and development of migrant workers’ children by improving their access to education and healthcare services.

“We continue to collaborate with local governments to ensure the protection not only of migrant workers themselves but also their families,” she noted.

Wahyuningrum added that the Ministry has begun concrete steps to improve the well-being of these children. According to her, children need sustained attention and care to support their growth while their parents are away working.

She explained that some of the Ministry’s initiatives include expanding access to education and healthcare, particularly for children who have not yet had the opportunity to attend school or receive medical services.

“Parents go abroad to work for the sake of their children. These children are the nation’s future. We hope they will grow up to be successful individuals who can achieve their dreams,” she concluded.
