Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister for the Protection of Migrant Workers (P2MI), Abdul Kadir Karding, has underlined the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration for safeguarding the rights and welfare of Indonesian migrant workers (PMIs).

“We must align our hearts and steps. Migrant worker protection programs cannot be implemented by a single unit or declared unilaterally. This must be carried out by a united, solid team,” he said at the closing of the ministry’s National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) on Program Oversight on Sunday.

He also stressed the need to move the ministry’s initiatives beyond plans on paper and translate them into tangible, collective action.

According to Karding, the success of migrant worker protection programs hinges on the cooperation between all levels of government, from central to regional.

He also called for regular evaluation and monitoring to ensure measurable results for every program.

The minister urged all units within the ministry to conduct evaluations at least once every three months, particularly covering aspects such as training, deployment, and post-return empowerment of migrant workers.

Karding further encouraged cross-sector partnerships, including with vocational institutions, universities, and community leaders.

“Many prospective migrant workers in villages still lack access to accurate information. That’s why collaboration with educational institutions and community figures is vital to ensure they receive proper preparation,” he said.

He also highlighted the need for fast, responsive, and migrant-centered public services, stating that such services must go beyond administrative procedures to address the real challenges faced by workers and their families.

“These programs are not just a reflection of the ministry’s performance but of the government’s credibility in the eyes of the public. Therefore, we must work with discipline, professionalism, and unity,” he added.

The Rakornas was attended by the heads of Migrant Worker Service and Protection Center (BP3MI) offices, ministry officials, and stakeholders from across the country.

Agreements and recommendations made during the meeting will be followed up with concrete programs in each region, with regular monitoring of target achievements.
