Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - Deputy Chief of Papua Police Brigadier General Faizal Rahmadani, on Friday, handed over compensation to the heirs of three police officers who lost their lives in attacks by Papuan rebels.

The fallen police officers comprise Brigadier Ronaldo M. Enok, 1st Adjunct Inspector Hidayat Suratno Harto, and Brigadier Tri Yudha Argadianto.

Each of the fallen heroes' heirs received Rp450 million (around US$27,748) in compensation, while each of their children was awarded a scholarship worth Rp30 million (US$1,849) to support their continued education.

In his remarks at the compensation handover event at the Papua police headquarters' hall, Rahmadani again expressed his deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.

"We will never forget the sacrifice and services our fallen heroes have given. Their heirs are part of the National Police's big family," he added.

Over the past few years, armed rebel groups in Papua have frequently used hit-and-run tactics against Indonesian security personnel and mounted acts of terror against civilians to incite fear among the people.

Victims of these attacks have included construction workers, motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers, teachers, students, street food vendors, and also civilian aircraft.
