Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs is encouraging Quran teachers to get certified by the Tilawati Professional Certification Institute (LSP Tilawati) to enhance their quality and get professional recognition.

During an event at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Ahmad Zayadi, director of Islamic religious affairs information at the ministry, said that the government wants Quran teachers to have proper professional recognition.

“There must be pathways for competency recognition, structured training, and sustainable development systems. It can no longer be left as a pure voluntary role without capacity-building,” he added.

He emphasized the need for a more structured, standardized, and socially impactful system of Quranic education.

He said that the Quran literacy movement should not stop at the recitation podium, but must be followed by efforts to understand and explore Quran teachings in depth to elevate religious literacy among the society.

LSP Tilawati is a concrete manifestation of the mission to make the process of Quranic instruction more structured, measurable, and professional.

Zayadi also underscored the importance of certification as a vital instrument to strengthen the Quranic education ecosystem in Indonesia. The initiative will ensure teaching competency standards and open opportunities for the formal recognition of Quran teachers, he said.

“Tilawah must become a national movement: reading correctly, understanding clearly, internalizing with awareness, and applying it with sincerity,” he stressed.

However, he clarified that the certification of Quran teachers through LSP Tilawati will be entirely voluntary and based on actual competencies, not administrative or political criteria.

“This certification is not about controlling religious outreach, but rather a way to honor Quran teachers as key figures in shaping the nation’s moral foundations,” he said.
