"Orientation at conventional schools is only for the students, but at the Sekolah Rakyat, all elements are new. Therefore, it may take longer, up to 15 days," he stated at Sekolah Rakyat Junior High School 15 in Bogor District, West Java, on Monday.
After orientation, new students will enter the matriculation period, as no academic tests were conducted. During this stage, students will be introduced to the learning process, the minister remarked.
"Students will undergo socialization and adapt to the learning process. Sekolah Rakyat uses the same curriculum as conventional schools, including character education, skills training, and other aspects," he explained.
Yusuf also ensured there would be no bullying at Sekolah Rakyat. The ministry has collaborated with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection and the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI).
"We must prevent bullying and sexual violence. We are collaborating with the Ministry of PPPA, the KPAI, and other institutions to mitigate this through mechanisms, procedures, and perhaps even with technology," Yusuf remarked.
Sekolah Rakyat was initiated by President Prabowo Subianto to provide access to quality education for children from poor and extremely poor families, based on Deciles 1 and 2 of the National Socioeconomic Single Data (DTSEN).
This program is viewed as a strategic step to break the cycle of poverty through education. The school, which uses a boarding school model, provides free education from elementary to high school.
All students attend formal classes during the day and receive character education in the evenings. Religious values, leadership, and life skills are essential components of the curriculum.
The learning system used at the school adopts a Learning Management System feature and integrates it with digital learning modules to reach children in remote areas and other places lacking access to quality education.
