Garut, West Java (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Fajar Riza Ul Haq has urged the public not to discriminate between public and private schools, saying both play an equal role in providing education.

“There must be no discrimination between public and private schools,” he said during a working visit to review the school environment orientation period (MPLS) in Garut District, West Java, on Wednesday.

Commenting on people’s tendency to favor public schools, which they believe offer better quality than private schools, he stressed that both private and public schools have the right to develop and grow.

According to the deputy minister, this bias is often obvious during new student admissions, when private schools experience a decline in enrollment.

He stressed that the issue needs to be addressed collectively by both central and regional governments, as well as school managements.

“This is something we are currently working to resolve,” he said.

He informed that his ministry has been tasked with formulating fair regulations to level the playing field for public and private schools.

“Our job is to create regulations that ensure fairness between public and private schools, so that there is no disparity,” he said.

He emphasized that the state must not allow inequality between public and private schools to persist, and instead work to ensure justice for private educational institutions.

To address these education challenges and manage education better, the central, provincial, and local governments must develop a common vision, Haq said.

“We must operate on the same frequency because we share the same mission of managing education,” he added.
