“We have also brought in a team to thoroughly investigate this case,” Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Fajar Riza Ul Haq, said here on Wednesday.
He confirmed that the ministry has received information about the student who died by suicide at his home in Garut.
On behalf of the ministry, Haq paid a condolence visit to the student’s family.
“We have offered our moral support, encouraging the family to stay strong through this tragedy. We also deeply appreciate how the family has responded to this issue with composure,” he said.
He informed that the ministry is not only monitoring the ongoing investigation but also evaluating the effectiveness of the School Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (TPPK).
“We are currently examining the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, we are conducting our own internal review and assessing the performance of the TPPK,” he added.
Haq noted that the student’s situation had previously received attention from the Garut District Women and Child Protection Unit.
He also relayed the family’s request to the public to refrain from speculating on the student’s death out of respect for their grief and to avoid worsening the situation.
In addition, Haq urged schools to uphold the principle of safe and inclusive education, free from violence and bullying, noting that schools are considered a second home for students.
“We urge all education workers and school principals to ensure schools remain a safe and comfortable environments, free from any form of violence or bullying,” he said.
