Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti has urged regional education offices to strictly supervise school orientation activities at the start of the 2025–2026 academic year to prevent hazing.

Speaking at the launch of the Friendly School Orientation program in Jakarta on Friday, he said that school principals are fully responsible for the orientation process, which will be directly overseen by local education offices.

He emphasized that his ministry requires all orientation activities to be supervised by teachers or school staff, not by student organizations.

The ministry has also instructed schools to share detailed information about planned orientation activities with parents, including the objectives, schedules, materials, speaker names, and channels for reporting violations.

Mu’ti reminded schools to notify parents if any orientation activities are held off-campus, adding that the ministry will issue warnings to school principals if violations, including hazing, are detected.

"We want everyone to start school orientation with a new spirit and new values, so that all forms of bullying — verbal, physical, racial, or religious — can be avoided," he said.

Earlier this week, the ministry called on the public to take part in monitoring school orientation to prevent misconduct.

Rusprita Putri Utami, head of the ministry’s Character Strengthening Center, stated on Tuesday that the ministry has prepared appropriate sanctions for any violations during school orientation, in line with existing laws and regulations.
