"If (they) are registered with SiskoP2MI, migrant workers can send goods valued up to Rp50 million (around US$3,064) free of import duty," P2MI Minister Abdul Kadir Karding stated during a public lecture at the Islamic University of Riau, as quoted from the ministry's statement here on Wednesday.
In addition to duty-free shipments, Karding stated that the government can offer supporting facilities, including sending goods worth tens of millions of rupiah at no charge.
By working abroad procedurally, migrant workers will also receive maximum protection.
"Many undocumented migrant workers have been so far difficult to protect because their data is unclear. By registering their data, workers' rights can be guaranteed," he explained.
Furthermore, the government is tightening worker departure routes, including closing opportunities for the misuse of non-work visas.
The minister emphasized that these measures are part of the efforts to fight illegal placement syndicates that frequently deceive prospective migrant workers.
To legally work abroad, individuals are advised to access information via SiskoP2MI to identify which Indonesian migrant worker placement companies (P3MI) are officially registered with the Ministry of P2MI.
On the portal, the public can also find information about opportunities for migrant workers abroad through the Government-to-Government (G-to-G) placement scheme.
