“This technology will be a crucial foundation for a more integrated and sustainable future for public transportation,” director of information technology systems and services at Transjakarta, Raditya Maulana Rusdi, said in Jakarta on Thursday.
The first of these AI technologies is an AI Agent based on generative AI.
The agent is designed to interact directly and naturally with customers through chatbots and text-to-speech functionalities.
“This agent doesn’t just answer questions: it’s designed to be an agentic AI capable of understanding context, making decisions, and actively providing information for needs such as route information, arriving buses, or lost items,” Raditya explained.
The second technology, machine vision for operations, utilizes computer vision to analyze CCTV data streams.
This system can detect the number of customers at bus stops, monitor fleet movements, and support data-driven operational efficiency.
As an integral part of its safety system, Transjakarta has also begun implementing a Driver Monitoring System (DMS) that tracks driver behavior in real-time to ensure high safety standards.
The third technology is a recommendation engine, specifically designed to analyze large datasets on services and passenger travel patterns to provide strategic recommendations.
The recommendations include proposing new routes, increasing fleet frequency, and identifying potential data-driven partnerships.
Raditya further said that the AI development initiative is a part of Transjakarta’s broader digitalization road map, which positions technology as the primary driver of the evolution of public transportation services.
Beyond the technological aspect, this transformation also targets changes in mindset and internal capabilities within the organization.
“We believe that AI adoption is not only about the system, but also about the readiness of the people within it. We are developing a new work culture, where all human resources understand the role of data and AI in creating significantly better public services,” he added.
