To ease the task, the government is planning to equip each village cooperative with two operational vehicles that can be used to distribute staple goods to villages.
“I hope our fish catches can reach all villages in Indonesia to improve protein intake,” he said at the inauguration of 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives in Klaten, Central Java, on Monday.
At the event, which was aired live on the YouTube channel of the Presidential Secretariat, he informed that each cooperative will be provided two vehicles—a truck and a pickup.

The vehicles are expected to be utilized to distribute fish catches to villages across the country, he said.
This could help lower the price of fish in villages to around Rp60 thousand (around US$3.68) per kilogram—lower than the price of buffalo meat, which can reach Rp80 thousand (around US$4.90) per kilogram.
So far, 81,140 village cooperatives have been established across Indonesia, with 80,081 obtaining legal status.
The village cooperatives program is aimed at strengthening the economy at the village level to create equality and eradicate poverty.
As many as 13 ministries and two government agencies are involved in the program’s implementation, in addition to governors, mayors, district heads, and village heads.
The cooperatives are envisaged as hubs of economic and social services in village communities, offering savings, loans, and clinic services, among others.
