Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs is providing scholarships to lecturers at religious universities who wish to pursue education overseas as part of efforts to improve the capacity and quality of lecturers.

The scholarship program, named the Indonesia Bangkit Scholarship (BIB), is being implemented by the Center for Religious Education Funding (Puspenma) under the ministry’s Secretariat General.

“We are providing scholarships to lecturers to study at the best universities in the world, such as those in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, and Middle East countries,” Puspenma head Ruchman Basori said in a statement issued here on Monday.

In addition, the ministry is providing employees at its offices, including in regions, the opportunity to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees to improve their quality and competency in carrying out complex bureaucratic tasks.

It has also tied up with two groups of universities to offer a double-degree master’s program to employees.

The first group includes the International Islamic University of Indonesia (UIII), Sunan Kalijaga Islamic State University of Yogyakarta, and Alauddin Islamic State University of Makassar, along with the University of Edinburgh and SOAS, University of London.

The second group includes five Islamic state universities and Universiti Utara Malaysia.

Basori said he also wants to ensure that BIB targets world-class universities to meet the human resource needs of religious universities and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

“If the LPDP budget increases next year, the number of our awardees going abroad will increase,” he added.
