Manado, N Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Port operator PT Pelindo IV on Monday arranged to transport the coffins of three passengers who died in the KM Barcelona V ferry fire on Sunday to Talaud Islands district, North Sulawesi, for burial.

PT Pelindo IV’s general manager, Nurlayla Arbie, said that her office coordinated the transport arrangements with the Manado Port authority, harbor master, and ship operator.

The coffins were loaded on KM Barcelona III, which was scheduled to depart from Manado Port’s Pier 4 at 5 p.m. local time on Monday, she added.

The survivors of the KM Barcelona V mishap and family members of the deceased were also secured a passage on KM Barcelona III, along with passengers who had bought tickets prior to the ferry fire, she informed.

As reported earlier, a fire tore through KM Barcelona V in the waters off Talise, North Minahasa district, while it was en route from Talaud Islands district to Manado city.

According to the command post set up by the Manado Search and Rescue Agency, 571 people were involved in the mishap, which left three people dead.
