Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria stated that through a national strategy and long-term roadmap, the government is encouraging ethical, fair, and inclusive utilization of artificial intelligence (AI).

In a statement here on Tuesday, he underlined that these two elements are key foundations to ensure AI technology can be developed and utilized ethically, fairly, transparently, and accountably.

The government is also closely monitoring socio-economic impacts, such as labor mobility, local talent development, and personal data protection.

"Key considerations in our national efforts include data governance that is robust and upholds ethical principles, such as fairness, transparency, and accountability," Patria remarked.

Indonesia is recognized for its strong readiness to adopt AI technology. In 2024, it became the first Southeast Asian country to complete UNESCO's Readiness Assessment Methodology for Artificial Intelligence (RAM AI).

"This achievement highlighted our nation's readiness and eagerness to embrace the transformative opportunities presented by AI for our economic and social progress. Nevertheless, with great opportunities come great responsibilities," he emphasized.

However, Patria noted that Indonesia is not yet included in the AI Risk Repository released by MIT researchers, which contains over three thousand examples of global AI risks.

"We ensure that the insights of Indonesia, as one of the most populous countries in the world, are not excluded from the global framework to address the risks of transformational AI," he emphasized.

The deputy minister also called for collaboration among various parties in conducting AI security research, developing policies, providing digital skills training, and campaigning to improve public awareness.

"We must facilitate the sharing of cutting-edge knowledge, diverse perspectives, and best practices in AI governance, technical security standards, and institutional capacity building for AI security," Patria remarked.
