Among these PNG citizens who routinely purchase goods during the market day of Skouw Village in Muara Tami Sub-district are those holding border crossing cards, the Jayapura Immigration Office head, Sutejo, stated.
For PNG residents living near the land border and keen on visiting the Skouw market, which is just 300 meters from the PLBN, they must possess valid documents issued by the PNG government, he remarked here on Wednesday.
However, PNG border crossers are not allowed to travel beyond the Skouw market area unless they have a valid passport and visa. These are required to visit Jayapura City, located 52.4 km from the PLBN, Sutejo noted.
Sutejo added that PNG citizens prefer visiting the Skouw market as it offers an array of goods at prices cheaper than those in their own country.
To support the needs of Indonesians in Papua, the Jayapura Immigration Office has issued at least 3,488 border crossing cards, making it easier for them to visit relatives in PNG, he remarked.
