Jakarta (ANTARA) - Housing and Human Settlements (PKP) Minister Maruarar Sirait stated that the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) provides concrete support for workers' housing needs through home construction and renovation.

"It is clear that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has a strong commitment. In the past three years, they have assisted 567 homes in 2022, 494 units in 2023, and as of June 2024, they have distributed assistance for 390 units. This was a concrete step in supporting the national target of three million homes," Sirait noted in Jakarta on Friday.

The Ministry of PKP and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan have agreed on the initial steps for strategic collaboration to support the provision of decent housing for workers in Indonesia, through a synergy of national housing programs.

Furthermore, this will be followed up by a memorandum of understanding (MoU), focusing on synergy between the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) program for Low-Income Communities (MBR) and the Additional Service Benefits (MLT) program from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Pramudya Iriawan Buntoro expressed his full support for the ministry's initiative.

BPJS will use its participant data to profile workers in need of housing and ensure they have access to suitable financing, he stated.

"With 39.3 million participants, we have a strong database to target FLPP and MLT programs more effectively. This is our real contribution to supporting workers' welfare," he remarked.

Meanwhile, BP Tapera Commissioner Heru Pudyo Nugroho highlighted that up to 134,400 houses have been distributed through the FLPP scheme, with 76 percent of these taken by private sector workers, who are BPJS Ketenagakerjaan members.

The plan has also gained support from several housing associations. Chairman of the Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI), Joko Suranto, stated that it was ready to provide incentives in the form of down payment waivers for workers accessing subsidized housing.

"This concrete step will be facilitated by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan together with the Ministry of PKP through direct socialization to companies, so workers can more easily access decent housing," he remarked.

This cross-sector collaboration is expected to accelerate the achievement of the national target of providing three million homes while also expanding access to affordable and decent housing for workers throughout Indonesia.
