Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) has emphasized that all international cooperation activities must remain within the framework of government policy, especially conforming to the directives and strategic initiatives of Indonesia's president in counterterrorism.

During an inauguration and oath-taking ceremony held in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday (July 23), BNPT Head Commissioner General Eddy Hartono reminded the agency not to deviate from government policy, especially in matters related to counterterrorism.

“BNPT must monitor the president’s international visits and follow up with bilateral assessments,” Commissioner General Eddy said, as confirmed in Jakarta on Friday.

He underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation as a strategic component in comprehensive counterterrorism efforts at both the national and global levels.

He affirmed that the BNPT, particularly through its Deputy for International Cooperation, has been actively involved in a wide range of bilateral and multilateral engagements.

Looking ahead, he highlighted that several BNPT tasks and responsibilities will require continued support from bilateral partnerships, especially as the agency plays a central role in crisis analysis and coordination.

Eddy also stressed the importance of enhancing human resource capacity within BNPT, which he said should be supported by international partners through information sharing and capacity-building programs.

“Our human resource development also needs support from our counterparts, particularly in terms of information exchange and capacity building. This is especially crucial for the Director of Bilateral Cooperation,” he stated.

During the event, the BNPT officially appointed and administered the oath to Commissioner Dhani Hernando as Director of Bilateral Cooperation within the Deputy for International Cooperation.

The appointment reflects BNPT’s commitment to strengthening governance of international cooperation, ensuring it remains adaptive and responsive to evolving global terrorism threats.

With new leadership in the Directorate of Bilateral Cooperation, BNPT is expected to further solidify its international network in a more strategic and effective manner.
