During a training and performance improvement event for KP2MI employees in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday, BNN’s principal secretary, Inspector General of Police Tantan Sulistyana, emphasized the need for cross-sectoral collaboration to protect migrant workers from becoming targets of drug syndicates, whether as drug couriers or users.
“With this training, it is hoped that KP2MI/BP2MI employees will have a better understanding of the challenges of narcotics and can support the BNN’s efforts to create a drug-free work environment,” he said, according to a written statement released in Jakarta on Friday.
He further shared the latest developments in drug trafficking, the challenges facing Indonesia as a potential market for international syndicates, and the policies and strategies of the BNN as the primary institution for the prevention and eradication of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
He also outlined the direction of BNN policies, which include strengthening border cooperation, bolstering maritime surveillance, dismantling clandestine drug laboratories, and handling money laundering linked to drug proceeds.
In addition to enforcement, he also outlined rehabilitation efforts for drug abusers through a network of mandatory reporting recipient institutions, primary clinics, rehabilitation centers, health facilities, and social institutions across Indonesia.
The training activities were held at the Indonesian Army’s Territorial Education Center in Bandung.
The BNN principal secretary was invited to the forum was part of an effort to strengthen BP2MI employees’ understanding of the increasingly complex issues of drug distribution and abuse.
