“This effort aligns with the Asta Cita vision of the government under President Prabowo Subianto, particularly in strengthening human resource development, science and technology, and equality and empowerment of vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities,” he said in a written statement received here on Friday.
To boost workforce competency and provide vocational training, the ministry has been building synergy with 19 regional heads, the business and industry sector (DUDI), and universities, he informed.
This collaboration was cemented by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Makassar Vocational Training Center and 19 regents/mayors from the provinces of South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and Southeast Sulawesi.
The signing was attended by representatives from the business sector and academia, including the Vocational Faculty of Hasanuddin University; the Takalar Institute of Agricultural Technology; the South Sulawesi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin); and the Southeast Sulawesi Kadin.

Meanwhile, Agung Nur Rohmad, director general of vocational training and productivity development at the ministry, said that a competency-based training opened by Minister Yassierli at the Makassar Vocational Training Center was attended by 176 participants.
It comprised 11 training packages and nine training programs.
The programs covered business and management training, welding techniques, electronics engineering, manufacturing engineering, beauty engineering, refrigeration engineering, fashion technology, automotive engineering, and construction.
Meanwhile, La Ode Haji Polondu, head of the Makassar Vocational Training Center, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the central government, regional governments, business and industry, and varsities.
It can have a positive impact on efforts to create a skilled, work-ready workforce, as well as reduce unemployment and poverty, he said.
“Therefore, employment issues, particularly the competency of prospective workers and the handling of unemployment issues, must be addressed through collaborative work between the central government, regional governments, universities, and the industrial and business sectors,” he added.
