Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Culture held a series of strategic meetings with ambassadors from Cyprus, Ethiopia, and Argentina to explore cooperation in the field of culture.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon began by discussing the establishment of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cyprus Ambassador Nicholas Panayiotou to enhance cultural cooperation between Indonesia and Cyprus.

"Indonesia and Cyprus can strengthen cooperation through an MoU as an initial step for collaboration in various areas of cultural heritage," Minister Zon noted in a press statement here on Tuesday.

Ambassador Panayiotou emphasized that culture is a vital sector composed of various traditions.

As countries rich in cultural heritage, both Cyprus and Indonesia can continue to advance their cultural development, including promoting their cultures internationally and undertaking cultural heritage object repatriation efforts.

"We have prepared an MoU draft to establish a framework for cooperation, including museums and artist exchanges," Panayiotou remarked.

In a separate meeting with the Ambassador of Ethiopia, Fekadu Beyene Aleka, Minister Zon proposed a joint nomination to UNESCO for intangible cultural heritage shared by Ethiopia and Indonesia.

"For example, Indonesia currently has a joint nomination with Burkina Faso, Mali, and Ivory Coast regarding the kolintang musical instrument, which is quite similar to the balafon. Perhaps, Ethiopia and Indonesia can pursue similar joint nominations," Zon explained.

During his meeting with the Ambassador of Argentina, Gustavo Ricardo Coppa, Zon discussed plans for cultural cooperation in honor of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Argentina.

"We can offer Tango dance classes and organize Tango performances at theatres in Indonesia," Coppa remarked.

Minister Zon also invited the ambassadors of Cyprus, Ethiopia, and Argentina to attend the CHANDI Summit 2025, scheduled to take place in Bali this September.
