Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto and elites of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) convened to discuss Indonesia’s role in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and support for Palestine's independence.

At the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (July 29), the president spent about 2.5 hours exchanging views on geopolitics and Indonesia’s diplomatic strategies with PKS President Al Muzammil Yusuf, Chair of the PKS Consultative Council Sohibul Iman, and PKS Secretary-General Muhammad Kholid.

“We discussed the ongoing issue of Palestine and the need for Indonesia to strengthen its role in the OIC,” Yusuf told the media at the palace after the meeting.

He contended that as one of the world’s largest Muslim-majority countries, Indonesia deserves to take a leading position in the OIC, ideally with an Indonesian representative serving as its secretary-general.

He said President Prabowo expressed a similar view, noting Indonesia's ability to wield greater influence among other OIC members due to its reputation for promoting a moderate interpretation of Islam.

On domestic matters, Yusuf noted that the president and PKS leaders also discussed the need to lower the costs of democratic practices in Indonesia and ensure such activities lead to the emergence of legitimate and capable leaders.

“Our discussions also covered practical ways to curb money politics and corruption in general,” he remarked.

Furthermore, the meeting covered Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, which stipulates that the state has the authority to control and manage natural resources for the people's benefit.

In this context, the PKS leader underlined that Indonesia’s economic system has been aligned with this provision to bring prosperity to all citizens.

He also took the opportunity to introduce new members of his party’s central executive board to President Prabowo.
