Director for Earthquake and Tsunami at BMKG, Daryono, confirmed via a text message that the warning, which was in effect since 6:24 a.m. local time, was officially lifted at 11:00 p.m. local time.
He explained that the warning was lifted based on the marigram analysis, which studies sea level records.
According to Daryono, data from the monitoring points showed that the waves had significantly decreased.
"All marigrams tend to taper off; the energy has dissipated," he remarked.
The earthquake in Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka Peninsula triggered a sea level rise of 5 to 20 cm in several parts of Eastern Indonesia.
A tsunami warning was then issued as the earthquake was estimated to have the potential to trigger a tsunami in regions such as Talaud Islands, Gorontalo, North Halmahera, Manokwari, Raja Ampat, Biak Numfor, Supiori, North Sorong, Jayapura, and Sarmi.
