"We discussed the US-Indonesia economic partnership. I explained Indonesia's current efforts to make it easier to do business in Indonesia. One way is through deregulation," Sri Mulyani stated on her Instagram handle @smindrawati, as quoted here on Saturday.
She explained that President Prabowo Subianto instructed the government to focus on simplifying regulations and improving the investment climate in Indonesia by increasing bureaucratic efficiency.
This initiative aims to attract more global investment and increase the competitiveness of Indonesia's businesses in the international market.
The minister noted that Haymond agreed on strengthening synergies and was open to establishing new cooperation that better suited the needs of both countries, particularly in the economic and development sectors.
"Ambassador and I hope this collaboration will continue to grow for mutual progress, and we are committed to maintaining the longstanding good relationship between the US and Indonesia," she affirmed.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto previously also welcomed the visit of the Charge d'Affaires Ad Interim of the US Embassy, Ambassador Peter M. Haymond, at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
Hartarto requested US support for Indonesia's accession process to become a member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
"The OECD accession process is targeted to be completed within three years. Support from OECD member countries such as the United States and the European Union is essential to expedite the accession process," Hartarto affirmed.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to introduce new US diplomats and discuss strengthening bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.
In response to this, Ambassador Haymond echoed the US commitment to fully support Indonesia's efforts to join the OECD.
He said the accession process is a strategic opportunity for Indonesia to accelerate domestic structural reforms.
