The collaboration reflects the ministry’s commitment and active role in developing social infrastructure, which was also evident in the People’s School (SR) program.
“I have instructed the secretary of the Directorate General of Strategic Infrastructure to replicate the same approach as we did in building the People’s Schools (SR),” PU Minister Dody Hanggodo said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
His ministry is also coordinating with the Home Affairs Ministry and regional heads to secure land for the construction of SPPGs at one thousand sites, with the tender process and construction set to begin soon.
Hanggodo added that the construction sites will be determined by the BGN, while the PU Ministry will support the physical construction.
“We hope we can do better than before. Hopefully, regional heads will also be enthusiastic, as the land area is relatively smaller than that of the People’s School,” he said.
Meanwhile, head of the BGN, Dadan Hindayana, described the collaboration as a key pillar of the national nutrition strategy.
“We currently have 3,233 SPPGs serving 8.2 million people. However, there are still 12 districts/cities that do not have any SPPGs,” he said.
“The 3T (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost) regions also require special attention. With the assistance of the PU Ministry, I am confident our work will be easier and the President’s target can be achieved,” he informed.
The BGN is targeting to construct a total of 25 thousand SPPGs in agglomeration areas and 6 thousand SPPGs in 3T (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost) regions, including through collaboration with partners and using funds from the state budget.
This year, the government is targeting to reach 20 million MBG beneficiaries by mid-August, and 82.9 million by late November to early December.
