Jakarta (ANTARA) - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin announced that the government's policy of special allowances for specialist doctors and subspecialists working in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions was initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.

The policy, stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 81 of 2025 concerning Special Allowances for Specialist Doctors, Subspecialists, Specialist Dentists, and Subspecialist Dentists Working in Disadvantaged, Border, and Island Regions (DTPK), will be announced and launched by the president next month.

"The president has issued a Presidential Regulation regarding incentives for specialist doctors in disadvantaged areas," Sadikin remarked when met on Tuesday (August 5).

However, he did not specify the exact date, stating it depends on the president's agenda.

The Presidential Regulation, signed by President Prabowo around the end of July, regulates the provision of special allowances for specialist doctors, subspecialists, specialist dentists, and subspecialist dentists in the DTPK regions, especially those practicing in regional government-owned health facilities.

In the first phase, the special allowance will be given to 1,100 specialist doctors, subspecialists, specialist dentists, and subspecialist dentists in the DTPK regions, with an amount reaching Rp 30,012,000 (US$2 thousand) per month, in addition to their base salary and other allowances stipulated in employment regulations.

According to Sadikin, priority will be given to doctors practicing in areas meeting specific criteria, including those with limited access, areas with a shortage of medical personnel, and locations requiring affirmative action or support and assistance from the central government.

Beyond this special allowance, specialist and subspecialist doctors, as well as specialist and subspecialist dentists, will also have opportunities for tiered training and career development, the minister remarked.

The Presidential Regulation on special allowances for specialist and subspecialist doctors in DTPK regions is a follow-up to meetings held by President Prabowo with Minister Sadikin at the Presidential Palace.

During those meetings, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of improving doctors' welfare and developing strategies to increase the number of doctors and specialists in Indonesia.
