Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture shared best practices in disaster mitigation with the Cambodian government delegation, covering topics from disaster risk financing and insurance to adaptive social protection.

"Indonesia views this cooperation as a symbol of international solidarity. We hope the Indonesia-Cambodia collaboration in disaster mitigation continues to develop," the ministry's Assistant Deputy for Disaster Mitigation Merry Efriana remarked on Wednesday.

She acknowledged that the risk of natural disasters is a common challenge in Southeast Asia, where Indonesia and Cambodia, despite their diverse geographic and social conditions, both face threats ranging from floods and droughts to hydrometeorological disasters.

According to Efriana, the meeting aimed to provide a forum for technical discussions and to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

"This partnership is built on humanitarian concern, a spirit of solidarity, and a shared commitment to protect the community from increasingly complex disaster threats," Efriana remarked.

During the meeting, she outlined numerous innovative policies Indonesia has developed for disaster mitigation.

These policies include integrating disaster risk financing into development planning, implementing insurance schemes and contingency funds, and strengthening adaptive social protection for vulnerable groups.

She also highlighted the development of an anticipatory approach based on an early warning system by utilizing technology and geospatial data to monitor risks in real time, enabling faster and more targeted disaster responses.

"We understand that our experiences may not fully apply to Cambodia. However, we hope these good practices can serve as inspiration and bring new opportunities for closer cooperation," she affirmed.

On this occasion, several ministries, institutions, and development partners also presented their best practices in disaster mitigation at the intergovernmental meeting with Cambodia on Tuesday (August 5).

These institutions include the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, PT Reasuransi Indonesia Utama, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (Social Security for Employment), and PT Jasa Asuransi Indonesia.
