Mataram (ANTARA) - Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB) Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal met with Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi to discuss the opening of new inter-provincial sea ferry routes, particularly between NTB and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Head of the NTB’s Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Office, Yusron Hadi, informed that the meeting took place in Jakarta on Thursday and aimed to push for the development of new maritime connections between the provinces.

“We know the government is strengthening sea transport and ferry routes to boost the flow of goods and people between islands, which will significantly impact economic growth in the regions,” he said in Mataram on Friday.

Hadi emphasized that the NTB provincial government is actively working to expand connectivity with other regions to support the movement of goods and people, and thereby, advance tourism and other economic sectors.

“This time, we are pursuing a new sea ferry route connecting Sape Port in Bima district, NTB, with Waingapu Port in NTT,” he informed.

He added that Governor Iqbal’s decision to meet the minister was a timely one and aimed at strengthening links across the Nusa Tenggara region, including Bali-NTB and NTT.

“We are already well-connected to the west and north. Now, we are hoping to build strong economic ties with NTT in the east. All of this will contribute to regional economic growth and strengthen the position of the southeast region nationally,” he explained.

Hadi said that during the meeting, the governor also expressed a strong commitment to advancing land, sea, and air transportation in NTB, including increasing flight frequencies to and from Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport (Bizam).

“There is also a plan to develop the shipping and logistics industry, and to propose opening sea routes between Sanur Port in Bali and Mandalika, among other initiatives,” he added.
