Deputy Coordinating Minister Otto Hasibuan said that the Independence commemoration should not only be marked by ceremonies, but also real action such as social service.
“Eighty years of independence is a historic moment; it is not just about the number, but about the legacy of the nation,” Hasibuan remarked, according to a written statement received from the ministry.
He added that all parties must remember the struggles of the founders and heroes who sacrificed everything so that Indonesians could live in freedom and dignity.
Hasibuan referred to an appeal from the State Secretary Ministry to uphold the five noble national values—the spirit of nationalism, social solidarity, active public participation, collective awareness, and synergy with the government’s priority programs.
He also welcomed President Prabowo Subianto’s decision to declare an additional national holiday on August 18, 2025.
According to Hasibuan, the policy provides an opportunity for the public to engage in national recovery, reflection, and to strengthen family togetherness.
“We must use this moment for meaningful activities, to strengthen bonds, and build solidarity,” he said.
He added that this positive energy will serve as the main fuel in the nation’s journey toward a brighter future.
The social service event, held at Lapangan Banteng Square in Central Jakarta, was part of a series of activities commemorating Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day. It served as an expression of care and social solidarity ahead of Independence Day.
The activities consisted of a physical exercise session, blood donation, donations for orphans, distribution of staple food packages to online motorcycle taxi drivers and underprivileged communities, and provision of cleaning tools to places of worship.
