Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) has revoked the permits of 14 women’s cosmetic products for overly exaggerated and indecent promotional claims, including “breast enlargement” and “vaginal tightening.”

“Such claims do not align with the definition of cosmetics as outlined in BPOM Regulation No. 18 of 2024 on Cosmetics Marking, Promotion, and Advertisement,” BPOM head Taruna Ikrar said here on Tuesday.

The regulation defines cosmetics as products used to “clean, scent, change appearance, or maintain physical condition.”

Ikrar said that promoting cosmetics with claims beyond these purposes — especially in ways that violate public decency — misleads consumers and can be harmful.

“Apart from creating unrealistic expectations that are not scientifically proven, using products on sensitive areas such as the breasts and intimate organs may cause harmful effects, including skin irritation and allergic reactions,” he explained.

Following the permit revocations, BPOM instructed businesses to withdraw and destroy all banned products and to stop promoting them.

Ikrar reminded cosmetic businesses to comply with regulations, particularly in marketing practices, and urged consumers to be cautious of sensational claims that may breach decency.

The revoked products include VERBA Breast G, VERBA Xtrass, SKINLYFE Albus Breast Oil, QIUSKIN QUIN’S Breast Serum, VIOLLA Breast Gel Serum, PHERINI Breast Care Serum, NUNACA SKINCARE Nunaca Breast Serum, and SMART BREAST Breast Luxury Oil.

Also recalled were PRISA Bust Fit Secret Serum; PRISA Wonder Bust Cream (NA18220101929); PRISA Wonder Bust Cream (NA18220106468); PRISA Wonder Bust Cream (NA18220107607); GENDES Spray With Vanilla; and GENDES Aromatic Feminine Wash Foam Vanilla.
