Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, has increased the quota for subsidized housing for workers from 20 thousand units to 50 thousand units.

During a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, he said that the decision was based on a request from commissioner of the Public Housing Savings Management Agency (BP Tapera), Heru Pudyo Nugroho, and an agreement with Minister of Manpower, Yassierli.

“Three months ago, the Minister of Manpower and I signed an agreement for 20 thousand units of subsidized housing for workers. Today, based on BP Tapera data, 36,629 units have already been realized. This shows that the policy is highly in demand among workers,” Sirait informed.

Minister Yassierli described the policy as a strong example of collaboration between ministries and related stakeholders to address workers’ needs.

“This is about our shared commitment to provide solutions for workers, with the Ministry of Manpower supporting the exceptional subsidized housing program from the Ministry of Housing and Public Works,” he said.

Earlier, on April 10, 2025, Sirait, Yassierli, and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti signed a memorandum of understanding in Jakarta to support the development of subsidized housing for workers.

Yassierli said that the program reflects president's commitment to improving the welfare of Indonesian workers through the provision of affordable housing.
