Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani highlighted support for the government's efforts to eradicate corruption, collusion, and nepotism in the country.

"MPR appreciates the government's serious efforts to take firm action against corruption through law enforcement officials," he said in his speech at the 2025 Annual Session of the MPR at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

According to him, corrupt practices can harm the spirit of democracy in politics, as well as undermine the efforts of the nation's leaders in building the nation.

Muzani expressed hope that Indonesia's democracy could be free from the culture of corruption to maintain a good spirit in the nation's development.

To this end, he encouraged the government and law enforcement agencies to strengthen corruption eradication efforts.

"Corruption is a betrayal of the democratic spirit that can undermine the legitimacy of the state and harm the future," the MPR speaker emphasized.

The MPR annual session is held along with the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).

At the session, President Prabowo Subianto is set to deliver performance reports on state institutions and a State of the Nation Address for the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia.

The 2025 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPD and DPR are held ahead of the 80th Anniversary of Indonesia on August 17, which raises the theme of "United and Sovereign, Prosperous People, and Advanced Indonesia."
