"We will build as quickly as possible. This year we must start with 1,100 fishermen villages," Prabowo said during his State Address at the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Nusantara Building, Jakarta, on Friday.
This effort aims to improve the lives of fishermen and restore their pride in being the nation's backbone for food production.
Assuming each village has 2,000 families with five members each, the new initiative could improve the lives of 10 million fishermen. He said this would be a significant step in boosting the welfare of the fishing community.
"We will make this happen soon. They will also repay our investment," said the President.
He emphasized that the program provides fishermen with a loan, not direct cash assistance, which they are expected to repay in installments as they begin to earn an income.
"This is a loan, not a cash handout," Prabowo said, explaining that fishermen would repay the government in installments after generating income from the program.
