Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia should become a pioneer in new, renewable energy (EBT), or clean energy.

He stated that Indonesia is obligated to strengthen energy security for the sake of national sovereignty. Therefore, oil and gas production should be increased, and the transition to clean energy needs to be accelerated.

"Indonesia must become a global pioneer in clean energy," Prabowo stated while delivering a State Address to present the Government's Introduction or Statement on the 2026 State Budget (APBN) Bill and its Financial Note at the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Friday.

With abundant natural resources, Prabowo said, Indonesia should be able to become a global leader in renewable energy.

In the 2026 State Budget, Indonesia will boost the development of solar, hydro, geothermal, and bioenergy power plants.

Indonesia targeted to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2060. The President expressed his optimism that the target could be achieved more quickly with support from the State Budget.

Furthermore, strengthening energy security would be pursued through energy subsidies, tax incentives, the development of EBT, and the provision of village electrification.

He expressed the hope that all Indonesians, from major cities to remote areas, could enjoy energy at affordable and sustainable prices.

Prabowo also emphasized that subsidies for the energy sector should remain targeted and not be skewed toward the wealthy.

"Overall, in 2026, the government's fiscal support will amount to Rp402.4 trillion for energy security," he said.

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a Plenary Session to open the First Session of the DPR for the 2025-2026 Session Year at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday afternoon.

During the event, President Prabowo delivered a State Address to present the Introduction or Government's Statement on the 2026 State Budget (APBN) Bill and its Financial Note.

The Plenary Session was attended by 473 members from all DPR factions. DPR Speaker Puan Maharani opened and closed the session.
