The suspects, identified as AM and AF, were blacklisted following the theft at Chayra Cell, which went viral on Instagram on July 18. The pair were arrested in East Jakarta on July 28 after a multi-city search.
AM and AF were deported on August 14 and recommended for entry bans, Serang Immigration Office Chief I Gusti Agung Komang Artawan said.
"This deportation reflects our firm stance against foreigners who violate the law and disturb public order. It is both a legal consequence and a step to protect our citizens," he said.
The deportation followed a mediation process where the suspects compensated the victim, he said, adding that a public complaint hotline found no further reports, allowing the case to be closed.
"Despite the settlement, we enforced immigration sanctions to maintain public order," Artawan said.
The case gained widespread public attention online, prompting immigration authorities to emphasize the importance of transparency and swift action to maintain public trust and ensure the safety of both residents and law-abiding foreigners in Indonesia, he said.
