Banten Governor Andra Soni conveyed this support after receiving MRT Jakarta management here on Tuesday.
“Many Banten residents work in Jakarta, and vice versa. Therefore, we need to consider a suitable mass transportation system that can connect the two regions,” he commented.
He emphasized that developing an inter-provincial MRT line would require institutional support, funding, and land provision.
“The Banten Provincial Government is ready to provide support in terms of permits, land, and building collaborations with various parties," he explained.
The Governor noted that the MRT East-West plan which extends to the Banten Province already listed in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), which makes technical discussions with MRT Jakarta important.
“We do not want the idea of extending the MRT to Banten to remain just a discourse. Earlier, we discussed the technical, institutional, and funding aspects. This brings new energy for Banten to provide full support,” he added.
President Director of MRT Jakarta Tuhiyat said the meeting with the Banten Provincial Government was a follow-up to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) previously signed, including with the South Tangerang City Government.
“This is a follow-up step so we can move forward quickly. Our target is to begin the next phase in January,” he said.
Tuhiyat explained that the East-West line is one of the strategic projects aimed at expanding MRT service coverage to Jakarta’s surrounding areas.
He added that the presence of MRT in Banten is expected to boost economic growth, reduce congestion, and offer a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation.
